Rotten Apples
Rotten Apples
During my first four months at Full Sail University, I joined an Indie Studio program working as a game programmer focusing on the gameplay aspect of Rotten Apples. They used the Unreal Engine as the software program to create their game, a software I have put a little extra effort in studying and practicing before joining the program. I work on several mechanics and audio of the game, mostly on player's action in the game and vehicles.
The first task I took was troubleshooting the throwing mechanic, where the player would throw a rock at a location and trick the Guard AI to follow the noise. The Link above will discuss the scenario of the mechanic
After taking on the Rock Throw Mechanic, I opted for several task revolving around audio. I honestly am not good with audio but the team have provided them for me. Each audio focus on three aspects of the game, distracting the guard by whistling, footstep movements, and heavy breathing near guards. The Link above will explain more in detail.
The follow task became one that is challenging to me. I was offered up the task to create a helicopter in motion. In all my life as a developer, I never had to do anything that relates to aviation. However, with some research and help, I have manage to work something out on this task.
Lastly I focus on one final task. After hours of exploration and experimenting, I manage to have a vehicle move around the map via waypoints. See the Link about to know more.
Overall, the experience was a blast, having the privilege to be a part of an indie studio, experimenting, exploring, and programming was something I enjoyed. It was a great learning experience about programming, offering up my service and skills, and gaining knowledge from all this.
