Full Sail Runway //

I was given the opportunity to join Full Sail University Runway Project during the early summer of 2024. It felt extraordinary having the chance to learn new skills and exercise ones I have learned from previous education and projects I have created.

At Full Sail University Runway Project, I was an Independent Contractor Game Designer. My role was Arcade Game Constructor and my duties were:

  • Creating sprites of characters, objects, and maps in the game.

  • Create animations on character's movement and actions

  • Coding on player actions (movement, attacking, damage, etc.), player's condition, enemy actions, audio.

  • Balancing gameplay, enemy spawning, health system, attack damage, and player and enemy speed.

Runway Frog

My biggest contribution with Project Runway was a Frogger Clone I created on the first day of my contract. On the first day, I was bewildered by a new program called Microsoft MakeCode Arcade. It was something new and I never worked on something that felt limited from the other gaming engines I have used in the past. However, I done my research on how to use the site, how to implement each coding from the block selection, and work my way around the program to design the game.

My first task was creating the characters themselves. I figure to focus on one player mode much like the arcade and add in different types of vehicles, a gator, a dog, and a smiling frog, as well as a death icon.

I wanted to feel a resemblance to the arcade game from the start and found ways to implement movement, death and spawning, scoring, and spawning time and speed of all the vehicles and animals as properly as possible. My manager has provided me feedback on how the game feels which allow me to find ways to improve it and bring it closer to what it feels like in the arcades

Runway Offroad

Racing has been one of my favorite genres and being able to work on a new project given me an opportunity to try and create a childhood classic on mine. I look for a sprite sheet that'll help me create the trucks in order to resemble what the game is. This was a little tricky and tough to create due to the opponents AI. I search for multiple ways to have the AI function properly and feel like an actual race. I even did had trouble with the player movement at one point, having the player's vehicle move uncontrollably and unresponsively. Despite the set backs, I did manage to make all four different vehicles, understand about player's menu, stats, and adjusting each vehicles stats, and racing rules, such as laps and time recording.

Runway Jungle

I focus more on sprites rather than gameplay. On this project, I worked on Player One, but felt there was a limit on colors I would normally have in any other game engine. While I have put in some custom colors, I use what was given to me and create these sprites in various poses and actions.

Runway Jet Fighter

The final project I worked on focus on a mixture of R-Type and 1941 as a side scrolling shooting game.

The there were two challenges that came when making this game. One making the player and the enemy of this game, and the second were some coding involving the health and damage coding. It has taken me a few days to be able to work on a functional game that involves the health system, scoring system, and spawning system.
